BEACHES:   Narragansett offers swimmers, shell seekers and sun bathers four beaches - Town of Narragansett within walking distance, Scarborough State Beach, Wheeler State Beach and Briney Cove State Beach within a ten minute drive.  The whole of South County offers gorgeous sand beaches, all within a short drive - East Beach, Charlestown, Watch Hill Beach behind the antique Flying Horse Carousel in Watch Hill.
 
 
 
BIKING:  South County has eleven miles of bike trails.  Start in Wakefield and ride to the Kingston Amtrak Station.  The ride is through lovely country on a recently completed path.  Or the adventuresome biker can bike from Narragansett to Westerly.
 
 

SIGHTSEEING:   Block Island's miles fo beaches and hiking trails surprises one with spectacular vistas.  The ferry is ten minutes away in Galilee, the port for the local fisherman and fresh fish off the fishing boats.  Newport's historic mansions and bustling downtown are twenty-five minutes via car.  Wickford village hosts small boutiques for shoppers and is twenty minutes via car.  Taste a bit of Martha's Vineyard via the high speed catamaran ferry docking at Oak Bluffs.  The ferry is 20 minutes away via car at Quonset Point.  The University of Rhode Island is 20 minutes via car.

 

 

FERRIES:   Block Island Ferry (1 hour) year round service from Galilee to Old Harbor; Block Island High Speed Ferry (30 minutes) from Galilee to New Horbor; Vineyard Fast Ferry (90 minutes) from Quonset Point to Oak Bluff, Martha's Vineyard.

 

 

MUSEUMS:   The Quonset Aviation Museum hosts vintage aircraft, the Gilbert Stuart Museum is the site of the first snuff mill in American and the South County Museum explores life in the Victorian era.

 

GOLF:   Eighteen public courses are within a half hour's drive - Laurel Lane Country Club, North Kingston Golf Course are 18 hole courses.  Woodland Greens and Rose Hill Golf Course are 9 hole courses.

 

FISHING:  Charters can be booked at Point Judith or Snug Harbor for deep water fishing.

 

 

 

BOATING:  Harbor tours, pleasure cruises or whale and seal watching boats are available at marinas from Warwick to Point Judith offering many options.  Sail aboard the 44' motor sailor Shooting Star for half day or whole day.  And Kayaking on your own or a tour is available in Wakefield, Wickford and Narragansett.  Kayak the narrow River to the ocean.
